IS THE HOLY SPIRIT AN ANGEL? In answer to the work of the Holy Spirit, a reader of our website stated If your congregation is singing praises to the holy spirit, you are doing something that is not found in the New Testament. We dont know what the person is referring to because we sing, To God be the glory, great things He hath done, and We praise thee O God for the Son of thy Love. What the person was doing was saying that the Holy Spirit was not a person of the Godhead. He went on to say in his lengthy article, Angels are holy, and they are spirits. Thus an angel is a holy spirit. and the spirit who guided the churches unto all truth is an angel who is also called the spirit of truth.or holy spirit. This is not logical reasoning for the following reasons. 1. John The Baptists record. He said, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with wather, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shall see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Spirit. (John 1 :32, 33). Jesus had the Spirit descend on Him. Was this an angel or the Holy Spirit? John said it was the Holy Spirit. Also Christ baptized the Apostles with the Holy Spirit on Pentecost day (Acts 2:1-4). Did Christ baptize these apostles with an angel? John said he baptized with the Holy Spirit. 2. Jesus said we are to be baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19). Are we baptized in the name of an angel? Or is it in the name of the Holy Spirit? 3. The Holy Spirit is called God in Acts 5:3,4. Ananias was asked, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost and keep back part of the price in verse 3. Then in verse 4 he said, thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. So in lying to the Holy Spirit Ananias was Lying to God because the Holy Spirit is God. We have God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. 4. The Holy Spirit is spoken of by Jesus with the personal pronouns of He Him, and Himself showing that he is a distinct personality. Howbeit he, the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak; and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you (John 16:13, 14). What is his personality? For what man knoweth the things of a man save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so the things of God knoweth no man but the Spirit of God. (I Corinthians 2:11). Paul, an apostle then said, Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which mans wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. (I Corinthians 2:12, 13). 5. Only Deity are Creaters. Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewestthe face ofthe earth. (Psalm 104:30). The Holy Spirit is a personality of the Godhead that is also a Creater. C. D.
