IS WWE (wrestling) REAL? Back when WWE was WWF, our neighbours had black & white tv sets where we would go, sit on the floor and watch our favourite programme. Back then, programmes were not rated. It was the 90s. Tuesdays then Fridays. Who can forget the likes of Macho Man, Tatanka, Bret the Hitman, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels, the comical Dudley Boys, the massive Rikishi and Yokozuna rubbing his big behind on an opponents face. Remember that day when Triple H teamed up with Batista, Randy Orton and Ric Flair to form Evolution? When he married the unconscious daughter of Mcmahon? We enjoyed every second of it. What we didnt know, most still dont know to date. Let us dissect the WWE. OK let me explain this as best as I can. The matches are pre-determined. That means that they know who is going to win long before the match starts. So if that makes it fake then its fake. At the same time, in my opinion, these people have to work darn hard to stay in shape and to execute these moves without majorly hurting each other every week. So from that perspective it is real. Have you ever watched a village wrestling match. Exciting for the kids but it could put everyone else to sleep. They figured that out a long long time ago and decided to spice it up to make it more interesting (sell more tickets) but to do that they had to stage what was going on otherwise people would get hurt too easily and the show would only last 1 week and then would have to shut down for the next 2 to 3 months while everyone recovered. So is it pre-arranged yes, it absolutely is. Its real - but scripted. You cant fake gravity. Like in the movies, you can only lessen the impact of punches and kicks. Notice how they dont hit with the knuckles but instead, the soft back of the hands. When they get exhausted, they will feign a lock around the opponent, pretend to tighten yet all they both are doing is taking a break. The ring itself has a soft bottom and it bounces off, lessening the impact of a fall. The chairs, tables, ladders, sledgehammers are made of light materials and not your average steel or iron. So what happens is that there are scriptwriters behind the scene. They determine who wins and balances it so as to make it interesting. That is how the dwarf Rey Mysterio can beat the giant Big Show. If Show could win all matches, it would be all so predictable. And boring. They create the characters, making them favourites among the fans or otherwise. That explains why CM Punk can one season be liked and the other disliked. For the Undertaker finally losing his Wrestlemania winning streak to Brock Lesnar, that was decided by the directors of this game. The wrestlers are professionally trained to do their moves in the ring. They dont just wake up one day and jump all over the ring. At times they will bleed or get carried off on a stretcher. Off the set, they dont hold the grudges we see. When travelling from city to city or countries they use the same plane, seated next to one another cracking jokes. Pretending to hate a fellow wrestler is all part of the job description. And they get paid handsomely for their efforts. That is how they pay their bills. They may land roles in movies like John Cena did in The Marine. The company may also invite guest performers such as Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather. The referees too are part of these true lies. They know what to do and when to do it. Like conveniently getting knocked out to allow interference with the match or allow a wrestler to use unfair means on an opponent. Their decisions are not always fair but then again, that is the plan. WWE (and the likes of TNA and ECW) is pure business. Which is why they had to replace the F {Federation} with E {Entertainment}. From the sale of arena tickets to TV royalties, that is how they raise the revenue to pay management, wrestlers, staff and other costs. So there you have it. Watch and enjoy this form of entertainment. Learn some self-defence moves. But above all, dont try this at home. Be safe.
