ISAIAH 13 THIS PROPHECY CONCERNS THE MOST FAMOUS CITY OF BABYLON DURING ISAIAH’S TIME WHEN ITS INTERNAL DISUNITY BROUGHT IT UNDER THE DOMINION OF ASSYRIA, SOMETHING THAT IS SO SYMBOLIC OF THE LORD’S INCREASING JUDGMENT ON THE BABYLONIAN SYSTEM OF TODAY!!! Babylon was then the commercial and business leader of the world and the greatest center of trade and industry. JOSHUA 7:21 testifies to this fact when Achan coveted and took for himself the beautiful robe from Babylonia, the 200 shekels of silver, and the 50 shekels of gold from the conquest by Israel of the city of Jericho. This defiled the Israelites and caused their defeat in their battle for Ai, and resulted in the stoning to death of Achan, his entire family, and all his livestock. It was also the religious and cultural center of the world, as well as the political and military power of the world. All this made Babylon the center of the entire world. ISAIAH 13 is God’s judgment on Babylon as prophesied by Isaiah. It involved the Babylon during Isaiah’s time when it was first conquered since the Tower of Babel was built by the nation of Assyria under Sennacherib. This prophecy is experiencing its final fulfillment in our present day when the worldwide Babylonian System is currently undergoing destruction by Assyria. The Assyria of old is composed now of four nations—Syria, Turkey, Iran, and Iraq, the major nations involved in the establishment of the Caliphate!!!
