ISLAM & LEADERSHIP: Defination; Leadership can be described as the position or office of a leader who by force of examples, talents and other praise-worthy qualities plays directing role, wields commanding influence in the society in which he finds himself. With this very limited meaning of the word leadership, one can see that the word leadership fits almost everyone in the society. Nothing illustrates this better than the following Hadeeth narrated by Bukhari & Muslim: Verily, each of you is a guardian, and each guardian is responsible for his subjects; the ruler who is in-charge of his people is a guardian for them & he is responsible for them; the husband is likewise a guardian of his household & he is responsible for it; similarly, the wife is the guardian of her husbands home & children & she is responsible for for them; the servant is a guardian of his masters wealth & he is responsible for it. Therefore each of you is a guardian, each of you is responsible for his subject.
