ISLAND OF DEATH This is the Isle of Man TT motorcycle race held - TopicsExpress

ISLAND OF DEATH This is the Isle of Man TT motorcycle race held every year on the beautiful Isle of Man located in the middle of the Irish Sea between Great Britain and Ireland. Simply the most dangerous race/sport in the world. In 104 years of racing 234 riders have died here. Part sprint, part endurance, part time trials, its the ultimate road race on the planet with speeds of 200mph/320kmh around the island. Held over 2 weeks with 1 week of practice followed by 7 races over 7 days. Riders set off every 10 secs apart and its all about being the fastest which is the reason why it is so pure and dangerous. There is no speed limit on the islands roads. With no huge prize money on offer it is all about the glory of being the fastest. The race is held on 61km of the islands public roads with over 200 corners and bends to negotiate. Death stares at the rider on every bend and corner. A split second error here and you will hit the stone walls, crash into one of the houses or buildings in the town or just simply go over the edge of the many hills on the island. These guys are a totally special breed of racers apart from moto gp riders. Isle of Man TT started as a result of ban on motorcycle racing in England. So the racers came here because there is no speed limit on the island and that is how the TT (Tourist Trophy) was born. At the end of WW2 Japan started focusing on manufacturing and the CEOs of Japanese companies like Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki etc brought their machines to pit them against the Italians, British and others. The rest as they say is history. Japanese motorcycles have dominated racing for the past 5 or 6 decades and are virtually untouchable. The TT has produced racing legends like John McGuinnes, Guy Martin, Bruce Anstey, Mike Dunlop and many more.
