IT IS NOT FAIR. My stomach is tight and i have butterflies looking for crevices to fly out because they cant breath inside me but well i have none right now because my system has completely decided to shut down........Not because i have malaria because these are my peculiar symptoms of malaria but because i am so pained..... No words or any superlative can describe my angst right now just suffice it to say that unfairness is one vice that kills me inside out. I can die for it i swear.........Unfairness is the state, condition, or quality of not being fair, or not being free from bias or injustice; uneven-handedness. The sense of injustice is a universal human feature, though the exact circumstances considered unjust can vary from culture to culture. I know what it represents in my culture i am a Nigerian i can give you a vivid account of what it stands for in my country. The sense of injustice can be a powerful motivational condition, causing people to take action not just to defend themselves but also others who they perceive to be unfairly treated……Can that happen in my country i doubt it very much........That a girl is born and by strange fluke of luck she is associated with the president of a nation. That she too was conceived and carried through nine months like any other child and the fact that the father or adopted father or whatever else he is to her happens to be her president and she the daughter of that president and my question is so bloody damn what? So did that young girl that got married to that lucky man since all you need in my country to be anything is to be lucky hard work and dedication are irrelevant I must remind us mere mortals. I am just adding that for good measure so you understand just in case... So did our politicians, executives and rich business men really for real give the couple associated with the president sixty cars I mean as in 60 spanking brand new cars as a wedding present that lasted six hours? Ten G wagons inclusive…the cheapest G wagon the Mercedes Benz is $120k and Dollars to Naira today is N168 the burden of that calculations lie with you. Get on with it...... I am sure I have told this story before. In 2005 I was in Nigeria on vacation from UK and I happened to go to the passport office to renew my passport at Alagbon. Famished so badly I stopped at a buka that my friend took me to…….I don’t eat meat so eating rice with nothing is no big deal but on this occasion I ate salad from sweet sensation that I took to the buka but my friend ate proper meal in fact egusi and pounded yam with all the works.. I saw a grown man ate a very big eba with the smallest quantity of soup I had ever seen. I could not understand why but I was so troubled. My friend said that it is called poverty that he could not afford more than what he was eating. I went to the woman selling the food and asked for the man to be given a proper meal. The lousy woman screamed across the hall oga God don butter your bread o! This aunty don buy food for you na you dey enjoy o! Anyway the man refused the food and opted for the money that he has children at home that had not eaten. I gave him ten thousand Naira…….A grown man cried because of ten Thousand Naira....... that I had paid his rent that he was about to be evicted. Now that is a Nigerian that could not afford a decent meal in 2005 and in 2014 the situation is pretty much the same if not worse and here is a Presidents daughter being given over sixty cars as a wedding present. Blissful union is all i wish them, i cant afford a car for them as if i would have if i could. People falling over each other and to outdo each other just to doll out some presents to some fortunate couple that happened to be associated with a president. Wow!. I am biting my tongue if not i would swallow it out of anger. There are families that have gone to bed tonight without a meal and many more would wake up tomorrow and not sure of what to do or where their next meal would come from. So these people have this much money to do these things in the midst of so much impecuniosity? They have so much to try to impress the very man they call clueless on the pages of newspapers everyday but in close circles they are fighting over what to give his adopted daughter and treating him like a God that he is to most of them. Wow! Hypocrisy stinks to high heavens. This world is not my home I swear i am just passing through…this could only happen in Nigeria my country. There are kids that can’t go to school because their parents cannot afford their school fees. Nigeria has the highest number of kids out of schools in the world I mean the same Nigeria that is the fifth oil producing nation in the world…with the new status of the strongest economy in Africa. SMDH! Now that new status makes sense…..After all which other nation in the world would their rich folks buy 60 high performance cars for a president daughter’s wedding? Now i truly understand why we the strongest economy in Africa its all falling into place..... Chelsea Clinton got married no one gave her a car…….Just saying o! Now I am asking please tell me if you know….How many of those cars can the couple drive at a time? Can they also remember that there are kids not as privileged and that selling those ostentatious cars and giving the money out as charity would do so much to assuage the plights of some other Nigerian children that are wallowing in abject poverty? I mean the children that their parents are praying, some are night vigiling but still the impartial God has not blessed them……And their parents have refused to understand that prayers alone cannot cut it .....that instead of cutting it that they will take from them poor ones and give to them rich ones I mean the Jonathans of this country and they get richer and they the lower ones get poorer. I swear to my God this is not jealousy, bad belle or whatever else but I am so pained to the pit pf my soul and I am so sad, But why? Why the injustice, why the unfairness? I wonder if that man that could not afford a piece of meat in that buka in his meal in 2005 has also hammered it big since then? May his way be clear if he has not made it yet. If this is not injustice, unfairness and wickedness of man to man please tell me then what is? No Nigerian i mean up to ten of them that have made it without the help of government I can say that for a fact so it is our money that they used in buying those cars, our collective resources, our wealth and our oil revenue.. Or is there any Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and little Mark Zuckerberg in Nigeria? I don’t know if you do educate me. God dey the poor man’s prayer resonates yet again and it hurts my ears. There was a country. Achebe continue to rest in peace............. This cant be fair.
