IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE The choice you will make in February 2015 to elect the new leader for Plareau State of Nigeria will shape great things, historic things and those things will determine the most intimate and important aspects of citizens, communities and family in Plateau State. This election is a great deal, we are at a turning point today; our state debt and liabilities threaten to crush our future, our economy struggles and fails to create essential growth and good employment opportunities. The current generation of so called Leaders has failed woefully to raise the standards of living of our people. They have appropriated the opportunity of new generation. They are embezzling the future of my generation and the next through incompetent economic management, under-investment in human capital and destruction of institutions to preserve their personal power and access to our state and national resources. I believe all the Plateau State citizens and Nigerians will broadly agree that “It is Time for a Change’’. At some points in our history, particularly 1960-64, 1975-79, and 1983-85, the situation looked a little different and better - but this changes for the worse almost as soon as it begins! And to change this, we must begin with leadership. Let us elect the New Generation Leaders into Power for a positive change. The new generation leadership which has a close nexus with the youths and women in our various societies must play a critical role in crafting this vision. The new generation leadership must in effect possess a vision which clearly indicates how it intends to create concrete reality out of its insight. Such visions must have a noble and not a self-referent quality in order to win the commitment of others and provide the followers with a noble sense of present realities and transformation being projected for the society. Our fate is the endowment that God gave us. It cannot be our destiny to continue to have bad leaders more often than not! It is time to say ‘enough is enough’ and choose right – promoting public interest, enlightened self-interest even, rather than the primitive accumulation and resultant social inequalities that would destroy everything and everyone. As the world moves firmly into the digital age, electing Blackberry users, - young people like Obama and Cameron in their 40s - communicating with friends and constituents via Twitter and Facebook, we must firmly reject those that want Plateau State and Nigeria to remain in the 20th century – and move forward to restore dignity and hope in our younger generation. They must see a country that can work in their lifetimes - where electricity is stable, crimes are solved and criminals brought to justice, and capability and hard work are the primary tools for success in life.
