ITS ONE OF THOSE THINGS TO EXPECT IN A NASCENT DEMOCRACY: Folks, you probably have heard or read already that on Thursday December 5, in the course of the re-scheduled primaries to elect a candidate for the Guma Constituency seat in the Benue State House of Assembly on the platform of the APC, I came under an unprovoked and unwarranted attack, alongside members of the Gubernatorial & State Assemblies election committee for Benue State. This unfortunate attack was master minded & carried out by the Benue State Chairman of our Party Comrade Abba Yaro with the support of Mark Hanmation the Administrative Secretary and a handful of political thugs. I sustained some minor injuries, had two phones almost completely destroyed, lost some money and vital documents in the process. If high ranking party officials can throw caution to the wind & carry on this way, then we really need to revisit and, hopefully, put our house in order as far as leadership recruitment and internal democracy is concerned. Unfortunate as this incident is I have since put it behind me and moved on as it is one of those things to expect in a nascent democracy. I remain committed to my political aspiration to the membership of the Benue State House of Assembly and will continue to count on your support. The good news is that we have confirmed from impeccable sources that I am a sole aspirant for the Partys ticket, & at the appropriate time all contentious issues would be resolved and we can move into the real contest. I will update you as information becomes available. I would like to take a moment to express my gratitude to those who stood in solidarity with me when the news broke. We remain committed to the process of deepening democracy in our state & in Nigeria at large and no sacrifice is too great for this.
