Id always wondered why I sometimes give long answers and most times super short ones like No. I realized its because I only respond to questions with their directly appointed answers. Usually *this* happens: ???: Why is there air? Me: Because it exists. ???: I know, but why does it exist? Me: Because science. ???: But where does science come from? Me: It doesnt. It exists. ???: I dont think you understand. Me: I understand fine. ???: Youre just telling me that things exist. Youre not telling me why. Me: You didnt ask. ???: I asked you why air exists. Me: I answered science. ???: I asked why science exists. Me: No you didnt. You asked where it came from. ???: Thats the same thing. Me: It isnt. The origin of something and the purpose of it are two different things, though many times they intertwine and conjunct. ???: What about the Big Bang? Me: Cool theory, possibly true, not my cup of tea. ???: What about God? Me: Cool theory, possibly true, not my cup of tea. ???: Why not? Me: Cool theory, possibly true, not my cup of tea. What happens when questions have more direction: ???: There must be a reason that air exists. Me: Science. ???: What is science? Me: It is the bonds and boundaries of natural phenomena, catering to the needs of energy and matter and chaos, always acting and reacting and going there and coming here. Science is the theory, the cause and the effect, the actions of life without will. ???: If science is without will, why does it exist? Me: It exists because somehow somewhere amidst the lacking and the nothing there was a bump in time, a riddle in space, and it created some basic unit that created another unit that created another unit, eventually bringing to the universe particles like atoms and molecules. Matter sprang forth from the vacuum of energy and volume. Bodies evolved from matter. Organisms developed from bodies. Thus, science, the workings of life and nature and everything beyond to the origin that we have yet to discover. ???: Is this the Big Bang youre referring to? Me: Not really. Admittedly Im not sold on that theory, even though its not all that far from what I imagine the origin of some of my worlds may be. Nonetheless, what I believe is a more religious or spiritual sort of thing. Yet neither one of those. Either there isnt a word for it, or I lack the articulation to define in tongue my beliefs. ???: Then do you believe that God--or a god--created the world? Me: I believe that at the beginning there was nothing. And I believe that if a god did create the world, then that god came from somewhere, and that origin precedes the origin of the earth in terms of importance within my belief. ???: So youre agnostic? Me: Sort of. Not really. ???: Atheist? Me: Sort of. Not really. ???: Okthenbai. Me: Okbai. Admittedly, I dont usually ask questions myself except to troll. Passively. ???: Do you like me? Me: Define like. ???: [Insert] Me: That isnt like. ???: Why not? Me: Why is it? ???: Because it is. Me: There are other words for that. Are you asking about those? ???: No, Im asking if you like me... Me: Why must I decide if I like you on those terms? ???: What...other terms are there? Me: I dont know. Youre the one whos asking me if I like you. ???: I just asked if you like me... Me: Under [such] and [such] circumstances, yes, I like you. But I dont think thats what youre asking. ???: Then what am I asking? Me: Im not telling you. ???: ...So thats a yes? Me: Sure. ???: Ok then. Me: Mmhm. Although. Its not like Im not serious. TL;DR: Im such an ass.
