Id like to clarify my point of view on the issue that Lee Zimmerman raises regarding the hike in international postage fees. 1. We value our international membership VERY MUCH. Our board consists of Swiss, Indian, Armenian and French members. We are actively promoting SPIN worldwide and we are in the process of forming chapters around the globe. 2. The facts are that Canadians will pay $5 more for postage and other international members will pay $12 more for postage. That is extremely reasonable. Hiding the modest price increase in a mess of number analyses does not change the fact that the new rates are not only fair but are in keeping with other groups who send their publications internationally. SDA charges $12 more for Canadians and $20 more for other international. D’Art et de Soie charges 20 Euros more for international. 3. Theres an archaic point of view that members dont want to read Silkworm online. The younger generation is perfectly fine with viewing publications online or in PDF. If someone cannot afford the modest $5 or $12 increase then they will be very happy to be able to view our magazine online for free. This is generous and fair. It is something that we are offering our members who might not be able to afford and may not even want the more expensive printed version. We are open to a generation of people who believe in ecology and saving our resources. Our international members are an important component of this effort.
