Id like to take back some of the things I said previously about war. It was written to be more of a twitter-length sound-bite rather than a full-length statement of my views, and as is usual with twitter-length statements, it failed to cover all bases. Lest there be any question about it, fighting WW2 as part of the alliance was absolutely the right thing to do. Defending the Falkland Islands, which were and are part of British territory, was also absolutely the right thing to do. I have the highest respect for soldiers doing what is obviously a very dangerous job. I often question the political leadership that takes us into war. The Gulf Wars, for example, were, in retrospect, more about the natural resources in Iraq than about improving the lot of Iraqis (there have been notable gains in only one of those areas). Id probably respect Blair et alii more if they had been upfront about that, if if they had actually succeeded in their stated goal of making lives better for common Iraqis, or if the much-hyped WMDs (with solid evidence) had actually been present. Question our political leaders. If the decision to enter into a war proves right, then so be it. War is sometimes necessary. But sadly, often interesting answers arise when you ask why war and why *this* war at *this* time. But always, support our troops.
