Id never endorse kids missing a load of school, obviously thats bad. But I hate this. I hate the way it suggests they are the governments kids and not our kids. I hate the way it presumes that a week in school is better than a wonderful week away with the family. I hate the fact that its a barrier to poorer people and a tax on richer people. Most of all, I hate the heavy-handed way it tars everybody with the same brush. A family taking their youngster on a once-in-a-lifetime trip because that s the only time they can get or the only way they can afford it is not the same as a family who let their kids stay home and play X-Box when they dont feel like school. /rantmode off
