Idea keeps civilization alive; Dr.K.O. Sebastian, Principal, DBC Senapati, 29th September: “They say’ food keeps people alive but some live on ideas; Ideas also keeps the civilization alive,” reiterated Fr.Dr.K.O. Sebastain, Principal and Rector, Don Bosco College, Maram on the occasion of the inauguration of the state level inter-college debate competition. The principal of the premium College in the state further said that thoughts disseminated through various forms synthesizes the civilization of the human to take it to another level. The doctorate also opined that Educational Institutes are laboratory of thoughts and ideas which further disseminates and brings change to social, political and economic aspects in human lives. The debate today with the topic “Political unrest in Manipur is due to less representation to Indian Parliament; may not bring immediate change but if today 60 peoples give thinking, tomorrow the actions of 60 peoples can be of change”, asserted the Chief Guest on the inauguration of the state level debate competition. Relating the address to the content of the topic, the principle of the host also pointed out that bandh, strike and bomb blast are signs of political unrest in the state of Manipur, so as the ‘crying baby gets the milk’, a crying state with high MPs has the viability to attain solution, as this issues and causes are heard in the parliament. “This debate will make an unseen impact in the political arena”, he concluded. The State Level Inter-college debate competition was organized by the department of political science of Don Bosco College Maram, Manipur on the 29th September 2014 at Human Resource Center (HRC) Hall, DBC Maram. The first state level debate competition organized by political department of DBCM was debated by 24 students from various colleges on the topic “Political unrest in Manipur is due to less representation to Indian parliament.” Hungyo Masaileng, HOD, Political science department, DBCM and also the convener of the debate competition presented a key note address and highlighted the system of representation in the Indian Parliament. Mentioning the need and importance of the co-curricular activities among the students to develop their personality and to ignite the students spirit of competition emphasizing on the aims to analyze the present political impasses in Manipur. “The debate will also cater measures to solve various problem to certain extent,” the HOD and convenor of the competition pointed out. The debate was chaired as speaker by Mr. Victor, HOD History Dept. DBCM. The debate was judged by Dr. Homen Imobi Singh, HOD Dept. of Economics, DBCM, Krelo peter HOD, Dept. of Political Science Hills College Tadubi, and Dr. Lakho, Asst. Prof. Dept. of English, DBC Maram. Rev. Fr. Roy George, the vice Rector and Administrator of DBC, Maram also witnessed the inaugural function and invoked the opening prayer. Don Bosco College, Maram, the host also walked away with a lion’s share in the debate competition. H. Reingam of DBC Maram was adjusted the winner, S.Rebecca of Mt.Pisgah backed the first runners up and Worrinchan Tallanao of DBC Maram settled for second Runners up.
