If I had listened to the professionals who explained to me after my daughters diagnosis that I could always have other children and she would never be independent and probably not talk (All I knew of autism at that time was the movie Rain Man. :/ ) If I had listened when they sent me into the -loss counselor- to deal with my grief of the loss of the daughter I would never have minutes after I learned of this label they had placed on her, my daughter would still very likely be non verbal, in diapers, aggressive, non responsive and completely dependent. Fortunately for both she and I... I am not easily convinced of limitations. I dont believe potential has a measurement. I do not like being told what she or I cannot do. I am a bit stubborn insisting to find a way when I am told there is no way. I am a research horse and take no one persons, no one book, no one professionals word for anything. I review and seek multiple sources then make up my own mind. Ask me how thats working out for us.
