If I understand this story correctly, the conservative-to-a-fault - TopicsExpress

If I understand this story correctly, the conservative-to-a-fault Washington Times is now saying that Washington is responsible for low-wage jobs because Clinton-era welfare reforms aimed at getting people back to work allowed Wal-Mart, Mickey Ds, etc. to pay low wages. I guess thats instead of the high wages they paid previously. The real butt-burner, though, is Jason Furman blaming the proliferation of low-age jobs on workers not having the skills and education to command higher wages. This would be why the mcDonalds in Massachusetts demanded a college degree to get a job as counter help. Apparently Mr. Furman is either monumentally stupid or monumentally stupid (or, quite possibly, both). Half the jobs lost in the Recession were good jobs, filled by people who had the skills and education to perform them. Two-thirds of the jobs created during what has passed for a recovery have been low-wage positions and many of those are filled by people who used to fill the good jobs. Its one thing to twist the truth; quite another to make it a pretzel.
