If a large business threatens to leave the country for political reasons, chances are theyre telling you a big fat lie which they think youre stupid enough to believe. Leaving the country is a REALLY bad business move. Why? Because theyve just exited a huge market at considerable cost - both in terms of the cost spent to move or dispose of all their assets and the loss of a gigantic slice of global market share. Who picks up this gap in the market (and potentially their assets, too)? Why, their competitors, of course! Who then go about making lots of money in the market that the disgruntled business just exited out of petty spite. This isnt hard to understand. This is how market competition works. When you hear people in the media spinning you this yarn, theyre either woefully deluded or theyre lying. Why do they do this? Because voters who know little to nothing about economics will believe this nonsense and thus shy away from progressive policies.
