If anyone wants a stunning example of the toxic sectarianism by which the powers-that-be keep working-class people divided here, look no further than the editorial pushing welfare cuts in yesterdays Belfast Newsletter. In it the editors offer this nasty appeal to the most disgusting bigotry: A key tenet of reform is that disincentives to work must be eradicated. Most people outside of lavishly taxpayer-funded republican strongholds such as west Belfast see this. Come again? Lavishly funded republican strongholds such as west Belfast? Classic, unalloyed, high-stinking sectarianism. This is how they play us. This is how it was tried in 1907. This is how they broke the back of the unemployed movement here in the 1930s. The trade unions have to respond forcefully, in print, to this cynical attempt to divide us. And we need to be out in big numbers at the RVH on Saturday to defend our NHS. Theres no bright new non-sectarian future awaiting us brothers and sisters unless we lay claim to it ourselves. newsletter.co.uk/news/unionist-trio-are-right-send-welfare-back-to-london-1-6273391
