If coughing myself inside out for 4 weeks with this bronchitis wasnt enough to deal with I was at my wits end since I have not been able to breathe when I lay down for 3 weeks and I am ever so tired of sleeping, sitting up in a chair. I decided my best course of action was to cancel my doc appointments and just go check myself into the ER. They got all my symptoms at the check in desk and assured me that I had made the right choice in coming to the hospital. Imagine how quickly my confidence in that decision waned when the gal who checked me in said they needed a copy of my advanced care directive! Trust me, the last thing you want them to ask you for is the paperwork letting them know who is gonna make your decisions for you when you cant do it yourself just as they are admitting you. The rest of the folks in the ER who overheard our conversation all got a good laugh when I told her that if she really thought they were gonna need it right away, I was going out for lunch and a cigarette before I checked in.
