If the protesters are throwing molotov cocktails at police and set - TopicsExpress

If the protesters are throwing molotov cocktails at police and set the market on fire, the President, media and supporters will pull back all support. Police car shot at? Shooters on the roof? Nobody in a position of authority is going to support violent protesters. Showing violence and thuggery hurts the movement, does not honor the character of Mike Brown, and I hope that this basic common sense is clear to those who want to end up with reform and different people in office. Sympathy for citizens not putting their own representatives into office only goes so far. I have no way to verify if the protesters have turned violent except for Alex M. Salazar who is there and through the journos covering this terrible scene. Violence has never worked and it is not the way that human rights teachers such as Ghandi, Dr. King, Mandela, and Cesar Chavez achieved their reforms. We will lose a great opportunity here to expose police brutality at higher levels if the protesters cannot discipline themselves to remain nonviolent. I cannot stress this enough. Violence empowers the police to be very rough with everyone involved. “Non-violence is not inaction. It is not discussion. It is not for the timid or weak... Non-violence is hard work. It is the willingness to sacrifice. It is the patience to win.” Cesar Chavez nbcnews/storyline/michael-brown-shooting/michael-brown-death-ferguson-missouri-erupts-ahead-curfew-n182811 Jan B.
