If the spiritual system in which you relate requires you to appease a distant deity for your own sin, through the continual practice of self sacrifice which causes you to carry burdens to get become more spiritual, then your spiritual system would be called religion. Now replace the word religion with Christianity ....its still religion. Now carefully ask yourself if you have truly found freedom from religion through Christ, or have kept the same religious practices and have added christ into it.... Sadly, most of the Christianity that is produced for the masses is self help religion with his name on it. The gospel is different. The gospel says that God is not distant from you. That God entered humanity in spite of our sin. That God bore our sin for us. That God frees us from our burden. If you hear things contrary to this on a daily basis be encouraged...what your heart longs for is truly the gospel. Go discover it!
