If there is no God then there is no objective standard for morality. In fact, morality is of no objective consequence because any claim to that which is right absent an objective standard of right is meaningless. Truth is, atheists rely on objective right and wrong all the time as does everyone else. This is ironic seeing as how they reject the only objective source for right and wrong. In the atheistic realm the best morals can really be are societal constructs based, oddly enough, on a common conscience in regard to matters of right and wrong in an objective sense. Concepts that cannot be the product of purposeless chance and matter. If the whole essence of the universe is purposeless and meaningless, which it is of necessity in an objective sense if there is no supreme being, then why even deal with matters of right and wrong ? Any appeal to either is an appeal to that which is assumed, no matter how an atheist wants to spin it, to be of objective force. Why as a free-willing being not bound by a God is it just to be bound by societal constructs ? If the appeal to morality is based essentially on majority opinion for, in an evolutionary sense, the preservation of the race, why does the races preservation have any more meaning than its extinction ? If there is no objective arbiter of the value of either then they are objectively equal. Hypothetically speaking, could that which a given culture finds bad be objectively considered good in another culture that deems it so ? Would you feel wronged if you were an atheist who went to another culture that, lets say, found rape acceptable, and some men raped your wife ? This is largely absurd but nevertheless, if morality is a social construct then each construct should be equal and wrong is really only wrong when it happens in a given society that finds it wrong. In fact, to seek justice for the rape in the other society would be without basis and a rejection of the supremacy of societal constructs in making and carrying out law and morality.
