If there were a God then those who try to gloss over torture as enhanced interrogation would qualify for a bit of it themselves. Last night on Fox, George Will raised a very reasonable standard: We should call these practices torture if wed call them torture were Americans subjected to them. Appallingly, Steve Hayes then tried to float the idea that waterboarding was not torture since some Navy Seals experience it as part of their training. Thankfully, Will shot him down pointing out that there is a world of difference between volunteering to experience it under controlled circumstances at the hands of your allies and being subjected to it at the hands and tender mercies of your enemies. The test, Mr. Hayes, is whether youd consider it torture if Al Qaeda (or the TSA) waterboarded your wife.
