If you are planning to visit Sabah in the near future, now heres a tip for you for to catch at least 10 mins of eye tantalizing glimpse of Sabah beautiful scenery. Oh but just a lil reminder, I am no aviation expert, but what I am about to share is merely based on a frequent traveler point of view; personal experience and observation. first step, book a window seat; to the right of the plane (if you are flying with MAS, then pick the row F seat). Try to plan for your travel to arrive KK around 4.30 to 6.30 pm and lets just hope it is a sunny day, coz you need the sunlight. .If you are traveling from KL, then take the 3pm flight. The best. Heres why. the plane will start to descend around 20min before arriving KKIA and It will make a turn ( I think close to Lawas-Sipitang area) and flying almost parallel with the coast; to prepare for a landing. Between 4.30-6.30pm, the sun will be ready to set down at your left side (to the west), thats around 30-45 deg adjacent to the west coast terrain. As your plane descending, look out the window and you will see the beautiful terrain and landscape of Sabah west coast; attributed to the Crocker Range formation, low undulating features with green surrounding. with the sun positioned low angle to the west, it actually give you the drop shadow effect, which create contrast of the terrain dipping and elevation. such a beautiful scene. at times, you will notice a few meandering rivers and mouth bars (spotted at beaufort, bongawan, papar and putatan area) which flow towards the open sea. along the coast, you can see those white sandy beaches, and blue-green color of the sea which defines the water depth of the south china sea. well its not all beauty though, sadly but true over time the lust green scenery along the west coast are disturbed by the land clearance activity which often exposed the red laterite soil and some open burning.I think lets learn to appreciate, and we might help the situation with awareness. I was in awe and dazed over the beauty; often I did not have the chance to capture this moment(and you are not suppose to pull out your camera upon landing, or isnt?). but hopefully if you guys traveling to in the near future, you might want to consider my 2cents :) #sabah #kk #landbelowthewind
