A week ago I asked for feedback on PamPams Child Care, I didnt get the response I was looking for on post, but I have been speaking to people, I have also received messages and emails. There is no doubt that this new back up child care service has been welcomed, everyone has very positive thoughts :-) The 3 hour sessions had a mixed reaction, for some it was just right others would like to include lunch. The reason for a session to finish at 12 is because, if I have another child for the afternoon there could be an overlap in my ratio numbers by finishing and starting with another at 1pm. Hours can be negotiated though. The hourly rate caused most comments! £10.00 an hour for some was quite a shock, whilst others found it reasonable. Yes, this amount is above the normal child care rate. But what a lot of people are forgetting, this is not a permanent weekly position!!! Some people say you pay your cleaner £10.00 an hour, why wouldnt you pay a child carer the same? Mainly because, you only employ your cleaner once a week for a few hours. If you had to pay your cleaner for 30 hours a week, you would most probably do your own cleaning! I have thought a lot about my rate as I really want my new service to work, but if people find it too expensive then it wont work! I did get the suggestion of doing a block booking with a discounted rate, again I have thought about this long and hard. An evening babysitter can earn between £10.00 - £15.00 per hour. When they arrive they might have an hours interaction with the child in some cases they dont even see the child! They then have the time to themselves. People are prepared to pay approx £50.00 whilst their child sleeps. I feel, what I can and do offer the children in my care is worthy of £10.00 per hour, I hope that you can see from the videos and pictures on my page that I am not babysitting the children. A morning or afternoon session of 3 hours will cost you £30.00, so far all the children I have met through PamPams Child Care have been very happy because they are not bored. I love my job but its still hard work, the children are the easy part, but remember the preparation and cleaning up after all that fun. So, my rate stays at £10.00 per hour and hopefully now that doesnt sound too shocking! My rate would drop if I was needed to do a weekly cover.
