If you enjoy aftermarket performance, you should take a moment to read this. With elections here, I want to stir you to vote wisely. The man pictured is Michael Bryant; a Harvard-trained lawyer, former member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario & Liberal public administrator, former Ontario Attorney General, former Minister of Aboriginal Affairs, former Minister of Economic Development, and former Government House Leader. As he moved up in office, Michael had a hate for modified performance cars, and made no distinction between the machines used in track racing versus road-going cars with cosmetic and performance enhancement parts. His stance on the matter was if you werent in the position to afford a Ferrari, then you had no civil right to a road-going car capable of any performance beyond stock. Reportedly, his intent was to ban cosmetic alterations and even performance parts for road-going automobiles across Canada, and he did push his agenda in Ontario. In 2006, an accident paved way for opportunistic Michael Bryant to grant power to law enforcement to take pre-conviction status actions, as we call it. He began with a warning to car enthusiasts and custom builders in Ontario, having a variety of peoples cars crushed, including custom Honda Civics. Cars adapted for street racing can be seized and destroyed, even if charges havent been laid and a race has not taken place. If we can establish someone has parts and theyre juicing up their car, then we can seize those vehicles. We will seize it and you will never see it again. We will crush your car, we will crush the parts. -Michael Bryant Heres the kicker - Less than three years later, while driving, Bryant had an altercation with a cyclist which resulted in the cyclers death. He was arrested and charged with dangerous driving causing death & criminal negligence causing death. However, he walked out of the courthouse a free man without even a bail hearing. When you go to the polls in the coming days, take a few minutes to research the background of whos name you check off at the booth.
