If you get easily offended, please DO NOT read this. God has been teaching me a lesson here lately. I am one of those preachers that gets to the church really early on Sunday morning. I usually have an idea of what I am going to preach about but I do not finalize my notes until hours before I preach(this drives our IT team crazy by the way). A few months back my momma fell and broke her arm. She ended up in long term care as a result. We tried for awhile and finally got her transferred to Azle Manor. This meant that she would be close enough for everyone who really cares about her could easily go check on her. Boy was I either wrong about the closeness or about those who truly love and care about her. My mom was the model for teaching teacher how to teach the Bible. For years she has taught countless numbers of men and women how to use flannel graph, stick figures and other props. She has led hundreds of people to Christ. She has been at the bedside of hundreds of people going home to be with Jesus. Counseled countless, cried and listened to thousands. Raised her children and several grandchildren. Had kids and grandkids in prison and still writes them weekly. Had to say goodbye to my daddy weeks after he died because she was in coma. Buried my brother while recovering from her own illnesses and yet the only thing she desires is for her own friends, relatives, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to come see her. My dad was my hero! For those who dont know he had Parkinsons when he died wheelchair bound. He was still sharp as a tack in his mind. He took his wheelchair apart, one nut at a time. There is a man at Azle Manor that looks like and acts like my daddy. HERES WHERE GOD IS WORKING ON ME!!!!! Sunday mornings I usually lock myself in the office and come out in time to preach. But for whatever reasons no one else really has the time or wants to make the effort to go get mom for church so I do. I really talked to God about this!!! Really messed with my mind and my routine. You see as the years went by mom and I were not as close as I was to dad. Not really a problem between us, she just needed to show more attention to some of her kids and grandkids, and I was OK with that. However, now that everyone else seems to be tied up in their worlds, she and I have become close again. I went to get her this morning but she had an upset stomach. Remember the little man that looks and acts like my daddy? He was sitting in front of the water fountain using the water to fix the hairs on his almost bald head. Something my daddy would do. I have said everything to say this, Cherish the moments, slow down and stop making excuses about not having time. Time is all we have!!!! Side note - ALWAYS HELP THE LITTLE MAN AT THE WATER FOUNTAIN! THAT COULD BE YOU ONE DAY! Beware when you entertain strangers lest you entertain angels unaware.
