If you have followed the course of Heavy Music in the United States since its arguable inception there is one main catalyst in creating a GREAT scene (and by scene I mean the Music more than the Movement, cuz lets be honest, sometimes the people dont follow)...OPPRESSION. Now I am not saying an Iron Fist Dictatorship Regime, I am talking the subtle Oppression that marks the landscape, Politics, Religion, Social, Economic, etc. The Ronald Reagan years gave us the strongest, hardest Harcore / Punk / Metal music that ever existed. Pure fury from the Suburbs to the Inner City, from the Sunny Beaches of Southern California to the squalor of Detroit & New Yorks Lower East Side,the Conservative Politics of Washington, DC, the Educational Institutions of Boston, Mass...you name it, kids were PISSED! And good for us that they were, cuz 30 years later we are still reconstructing Hard music with the building blocks the innovators gave us. Thirty years later and 120degrees hotter I give you Arizona! A hotbed of Conservative laws that even The Onion couldnt make up, a Sheriff that wants to jail anyone under 60 (or brown), ground Zero for insane Gun laws, Border Issues, poor Education, a Xenophobics Disneyland...oh, and heat, ceaseless, choking, heat. And with that perfect storm it harkens our bands to come out of the gate, more Brutal, more Intense...and yes more Diverse. AZ had the whole Summer to be locked in Studios, often with poor recirculated air to unleash an onslaught of bludgeoning New Albums. For you purveyors of all that is heavy, that really want that breathe of fresh air to come at you like a blast furnace look no further than AZ...with new releases coming hot and HEAVY from all corners of our scorched landscape, Territory, Sorxe, Run With The Hunted, Take Over And Destroy, Funerary, Sorrower, godhuntertucson, Gatecreeper, Oxleys Midnight Runners are just a few of our deserts offerings that have releases out now or in the next month or so. We have also sent one of our own out on the road with OFF! so please make sure to get to the shows early and see Gay Kiss. If this list of bands has not produced something of your liking it is time for you to look in the mirror and admit that you have grown out of Hard music. Its OK...someone will take your place.
