If you just listen, you can pick up great nuggets of wisdom from anyone. While taking a break from writing the book about Abbie, I was thinking ahead to future books. One title came to mind, Everything I Need to Know I Learned from My Daddy, My Preacher, Joe Peavy and Tommy Greene. That would not really be the title but I thought about writing a book about wisdom I have picked up along the way from people as diverse as Buddy James Tinney Benjie Dyal, Marty Lookabill and Bernard Wilson, longtime Madisonian and father of David Wilson, One day, Mr. Wilson shared with me that how, when he was growing up in Bainbridge, Georgia, they would have turkey shoots. Instead of shooting turkeys, they would put the turkeys in a pen and the first one to stick his neck out got his head blown off. He told me that to show how some peoples egos get in the way of their common sense. He did tell me the flip side, however, that sometimes you have to be the turkey willing to stick your neck out for anything to be accomplished. I miss my conversations with my daddy, my granddaddy, Mr. Wilson and so many others who have taught me so many things. Remember, all you have to do is LISTEN and you will discover each person has some wisdom to share.
