If you live in Orange County , your County tax is going up 10%, it - TopicsExpress

If you live in Orange County , your County tax is going up 10%, it maybe only 7-8% of your total tax liability but Did you know that 78% of the county tax is dedicated to funding social welfare in orange county? Orange county has one of the highest sales taxes in NYS at 8.25 % ( they are talking about raising this too). ..............took this next summation from another page..name with held..Most folks in the Town of Monroe have received their property tax bills by now. Just some fun observations. The town tax itself makes up about 7-8% of the annual total of our taxes. The school tax (for which we all just got NYS Tax Freeze Credits in the mail creating a 0% increase from 2013 to 2014) amounts to about 75% of the total. That leaves the county at about 17%. ORANGE COUNTY this year RAISED its tax levy from 19.028400 per $1000 or per Unit to 20.006700. Mathematically my $100 increase in taxes this year is a 4.1% increase in property tax over last year mostly due to the raise in COUNTY taxes plus a 1.4% rise in the Town tax as announced at town board and budget meetings. My point is - that through this entire dialogue about annexation - the Town tax part is really the least of our worries (at least for now), The County which must furnish medicaid and social services programs at 17% went up 5.12% as compared to last year. We do not get a tax cap freeze from the county part, and the town part came in under the 2% cap - only with the diligence of the parties involved in creating the school budget did we all receive a 0% increase in the School Tax.. Take a look at your 2015 Town of Monroe Tax Bill.. Then take a look at your 2014 Bill. In 2014 under the Total Taxes Due theres a statement which reads: 78% of your county taxes are for state mandated medicaid and social services programs. Interestingly this statement has been deleted from the 2015 bill. Is it an oversight, or has the amount become so increasingly high that the county - and the town (which sends out these bills) doesnt want us to know the percentage of the COUNTY TAX being utilized to pay for Medicaid and Social Services. This was the same tactic used before Assemblyman Agnostikos and others were able to uncover that in KJ the medicaid percentage was 93%.. This is just a suggestion to get this info out to the entire county - who outside of Monroe - thinks that allowing our towns land to be annexed out out of the town is no big deal to them.. Right here we are looking at 5% in one year BEFORE any drastic changes in county population... That was two cents..
