For too many years, online retailers have enjoyed an unfair advantage over our main street retailers when it comes to collecting sales taxes. It’s time for that to end. It’s time to level the playing field between online and main street retailers. It’s about fairness. It’s also about state and local governments being able to collect the $23 billion in lost annual revenues that could be used to support jobs, economic development, public safety and much needed infrastructure investment in our communities. “Marketplace Fairness is critical to the economic vitality of our nation’s cities and towns,” said Clarence Anthony, NLCs CEO and executive director. He continued, “If our nation wants cities and towns that can compete globally and create an environment for economic growth and opportunity, we need Congress to support Marketplace Fairness.” ### The National League of Cities (NLC) is dedicated to helping city leaders build better communities. NLC is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans. nlc.org Media Contact: Tom Martin Senior Associate, Strategic Communications National League of Cities (NLC) 202-626-3186 | [email protected]
