If you love your pets PLEASE take a few minutes to read this and educate yourselves on what exactly youre feeding your furry family members. I challenge ALL of you to look at the ingredients on your pets food, and compare them to what youre about to learn. If you have any questions please dont hesitate to message me or comment below. There is NO single best food for every dog or cat – not all are created equal. Dont always go by what it says on the feeding chart – only you know your pet best. Feed Species Appropriate – cats and dogs are NOT herbivores, they are carnivores. Ingredients are listed in order of Weight (heaviest being 1st ) before cooking – Focus on ingredients 2 through 6. Seek Nutrition-Rich Proteins – Beef, Lamb, Turkey, Chicken, Venison, Duck, Pork, Bison, and Fish (stay with me - were getting to the good stuff) Meal is a Cooked-Down Protein Source, and when the source is specified its a perfectly healthy ingredient. Avoid “By-Products” – Avoid unidentifiable “By-Product Meal” - BLEH! Avoid unidentified origin proteins (i.e., poultry digest, animal meal, meat meal = SCARY!) Guys, were talking road kill, euthanized animals, rotten mystery meat etc..those are all animal meal...its disgusting and causes problems with the overall health of your animal. Avoid Corn Meal or Corn Gluten Meal and Wheat Gluten – they are poor fillers used to boost protein content...Again, dogs and cats are meat eaters...they are not designed to eat a diet of primarily corn, and wheat...Its cheap and thats why crappy brands use it as a primary protein source. For example, you and I can survive off of cheese puffs and cola...but wed feel like crap, be generally unhealthy, and have poor skin, teeth, hair etc... Ideally you should rotate your protein source every 3 Months. Nutritional diversity is important, and it prevents your pet from developing an allergy to the food over time. Low quality diets are linked to common ailments & allergies, and certain preservatives are linked to tumors/cancer, & liver problems (i.e., BHA, BHT, ethoxyquin, propylene glycol) Cheap, poor quality feeding just means feeding larger portions to meet digestible needs, and GUESS WHAT?!? All of that useless filler (indigestible filler) just goes out the back-end and creates more of a mess for you! Example - I know two Pit Bulls that are on an all raw diet and their poops are TINY! Chihuahua sized poop for such big dogs is pretty funny and its because their bodies are using all of that goodness and it leaves very little to be expressed...plus they have beautiful coats, muscle tone, healthy skin, teeth, clear eyes etc. Better quality does Not mean more expensive! – Cost over time may be less expensive due to feeding less and consideration of vet bills due to indigestible ingredients. If you decide to transition to a new food – Introduce 25% new food for 1 week; 50% for 2nd week...if your pet is doing well go all in for week 3...HOWEVER when switching from a cheap crappy food to a quality food Ive noticed many animals having no issues at all when changed overnight. Its like you eating nothing but fast food for a year and then switching to healthy, organic foods....your body would thank you - however if you went the other way (all organic to greasy fast food) it probably WOULD upset your tummy... Just some food for thought folks... I love my animals and this has become something Im very passionate about...
