“If you plan cities for cars and traffic, you get cars and traffic. If you plan for people and places, you get people and places” Good post on the current drama over cycle lanes and less cars in the city centre. Personally I much prefer walking about the Liberties than driving through it ...but that might be weird me. But you cant have everything...lots of space for people while also ever increasing numbers of cars. thejournal.ie/readme/inner-city-living-cycling-1523917-Jun2014/?utm_source=shortlink Things you might like to see in this area: - Wider pavements with room for cafe terraces and even free seats! - A 30km limit to traffic along Thomas Street. - Less speeding down Francis Street - theres people trying to live here! - Human junctions at Nicholas Street and Cornmarket with more priority for pedestrians... not corrals to let cars go as fast as possible. - Less clutter on pavements - a walk down the street should not be an obstacle course - Trees on streets - proper avenues, not just random trees marooned in concrete or tarmac - Cycle parking that doesnt create a barrier to crossing the street - high density cycle parking spots - Wider street crossings - why are we corralled into 2m wide sections Get interested! Create a debate about how YOUR city and area should work for you.
