If you think stink bugs are disgusting do NOT read this. I actually became quite fond of them. If you observe them you can see they are terrified. They scurry to hide. They pile up together. When on their backs they frantically wiggle their legs to get right side up because they are ao vulnerable. Yes, they stink. And i know they destroy crops. But when i lived in AZ on remote wilderness property on my own, I experienced a lot of fear. And then i began to recognize fear in other beings around me, like rattlesnakes, and i could understand that fear of the external, whether rational or not. And i found an element of compassion. So as the nights began so cold and the stink bugs came inside to shelter, i decided to create a stink bug winter shelter. (If you have made it thus far you are probably rolling your eyes and/ or feeling nauseous if you didnt observe my warning lol). I put an old shirt in a cushion cover and would catch the stink bugs and put them in there, in a cupboard. I cant say i did this with every one, but definitely there were way fewer than the year before. Anyway i just checked them out of their cosy hotel into the leaf litter on the ground next to the shed (so they can still find shelter ),and I am happy to say to myself - if noone else! - had a very high survival rate!!
