If your pastor is shoving tithing down your throat and talking about how youre robbing from God if you don give your 10% every month, remind them that the tithing command is found in the book of Malachi. The Old Testament laws were there for a reason in their time and written to different people than you and I. When Jesus came and died on the cross he did away with all of the commands and summed them up by telling us to love our neighbor and love God.... Those were his new commands. You cant steal from God.... And to even think that, is ludicrous. Tithing found in the New Testament gives us a picture of giving in all ways shapes and forms in order to bless the body of Christ as a whole. When we give our time to the church God is equally as pleased as when you give your money. He doesnt need your money. Now dont get me twisted im not at all by any means saying that tithing $ is bad... NOT AT ALL. God gives back to those who are faithful with little, and I believe that its a great thing to do when your light bills are paid and your family is fed. What Im saying is if you dont have 10%, give 2% if thats all you have. If you dont have 2%, hang out and vacuum a hallway or two. Tithing should never be about how much $ is in a basket. Its the heart of giving and the purpose of doing it that matters. Salvation comes through Jesus blood alone. Tithing does not affect that.
