If youve never watched Parenthood, I urge you to give it a try. - TopicsExpress

If youve never watched Parenthood, I urge you to give it a try. This was another amazing episode, and everyone in Canada can watch this until approximately Thursday. Some may be able to watch it longer, depending on your settings with Global. (Americans can find it, of course, at nbc.) Its an amazing snapshot of a family that may (hopefully) be very much like yours. Every week, it leaves me feeling...better. It may seem hard to dive in, because a lot is going on. I believe its easy to figure out whats what, though. There are some things that it will help to know as you watch: Max is furious because he has trouble understanding people who dont have Aspergers. He would rather work on his passion--photography--with Hank (Ray Romano), who recently realized (thanks to Max) that he may be on the Autism spectrum, too. Hank used to be involved with Maxs aunt, Sarah (Lauren Graham). It would help to know some of this stuff, but you dont need to know it all. Ambers ex-fiance is a soldier whose life takes a shocking turn in this episode; her brother, Drew, is away at college and trying to sort out his love life with a classmate who gave him the friend talk last semester; Joel and Julia are licking their wounds after a bout of marital trouble in the midst of a trial separation. Maxs parents are struggling to launch a school for kids with special needs. Maxs mom, Kristina had cancer last year, but is in full remission, although her closest friend, Gwen, is not. Monica Potter should have an Emmy for her performance by now, but theres still hope. Crosby (Dax Shepard) has mold. I know what it all sounds like, but its no more or less a soap opera than your family. Take my word for it, its worth a watch. Television doesnt get much better than this. ...and if youre the type who has to see a show from the start. I urge you to resist that thought of arbitrary rejection. You can go back and watch from the beginning later, and you will savour each moment from the past along the way. This isnt the sort of show that has big game-changing moments that mean you have to know everything up to now. Just think of it as meeting new friends at this point in their lives. You can get to know them better as time pushes forward. Oh, and--just to keep it straight--Sarah, Julia, Crosby and Adam are siblings. Once you get that sorted out, everything else will make more sense. :-) Thats my sales pitch. :-)
