Ill give you an example of greed...whatever the company or the media says. We have four Safeway grocery stores in town. We have even more Thrifty Foods. Thriftys grocery was a local company until it was bought out by Sobeys. A short while later, Sobeys buys all of Safeway. I guess they are trying to get a corner on the market. They already own IGA and Price Chopper. Now in Canada we have rules about competition. One company cannot own a major chunk of one industry; it leads to a monopoly. Usually that is a good idea I think, but this time the government is forcing Sobeys to sell grocery stores to another viable grocery chain, so 23 stores are going. In the Victoria area, three Safeway stores are to be sold, and they wont be allowed to be Safeway anymore. Brother! I have shopped at Safeway for over 20 years. I wont shop at Pattisons stores. Thriftys has never been my top choice. Because of GREED, Sobeys loses 3 of 4 stores. Another chain will come in, and I wont be able to shop at my favourite grocery anymore. I am betting it is because when Sobeys bought Safeway, they were forced to keep the union agreements which are intact for a few more years. This is just another example of the manipulation of our ability to buy our food by limiting our choice. All because of Greed.....ALSO, did you know that the labelling law which is being fought right now in Washington state, with the vote on November 5th, is using a slush fund of millions of dollars to stop the labelling of GMOs (genetically modified organisms)? Some good journalism sleuthing has finally unveiled the companies paying into the slush fund. The list is too long to put here, but suffice it to say, that it is every major brand that we buy. These companies want to sell you genetically modified foods and not tell you. I am so tired of corporations that for the sake of profit and control will hide in the shadows and con us to buy, buy, buy.
