Debbie Zimmerman Szymanski, whose beautiful children appear in my teaser & forthcoming music video Soak It In asked me to tell the story behind Soak It In so that she could share it with her friends. The story behind Soak It In is literally a miracle...and that miracle is Lauren Manning, who was critically injured on 9/11 suffering burns over nearly 85 percent of her body. Lauren has long been my greatest personal inspiration, and inspired millions around the world to LIVE...or shall I say THRIVE passionately...and to literally appreciate every single second of life. I had wanted to write a song for Lauren since the very moment we connected, and on the particular day of this session she was, as she often is, on my mind. I Googled her and an interview she had with Oprah Winfrey 10 years after the attacks came on my screen...at the end of the video Lauren Manning described, in detail, how she now makes sure to take time with life... she closed her eyes smiled broadly and declared.... I just SOAK IT IN! In that instant, this anthemic song, with the Chant of I....Am....O......K! dropped in my head and Davy Nathan, a brilliant songwriter, pianist and producer friend of mine created this beautiful tribute to Lauren Manning and how she chooses to LIVE life! People often ask me why I am so happy all the time...I think its because the miracle of knowing Lauren, and a few other people in my life, who have survived the unsurvivable, with Unmeasured Strength and courage make it literally impossible for me to do anything but live my life in the same manner. Lauren, my dear, this song is for you... You and your husband Greg Manning have inspired me in ways I cannot begin to put words to. Thank you for teaching me how to LIVE and how to SOAK IT IN! The beautiful people of #AXA #Anguilla truly embodied the very essence of this song as we shot it. I cannot begin to express my gratitude for each and everyone. And Crispin Brooks captured these breathtaking joyful images ....
