Im a Parkwood graduate of the class of 2004. I hold a Bachelors Degree in Musical Theatre with a minor in Religion and Philosophy from one of the top rated college arts departments in the country. I have been consistently employed as an actor not only since I graduated college, but also in the summers between my college years ever since I left Parkwood High. My career is partly owed to the amazing education I received in Monroe as a student in the Parkwood school district. I cant say I know anything about what goes on at Parkwood now. But the picture thats being painted by Mrs. Anderson is not one I remember at all. Im sure there are several people in the Monroe area who will agree with me when I say that I count myself extremely lucky to have grown up in such a caring, tight-knit, protective, and nurturing community. Every single employee in the Parkwood school district cared about their job, their county, their school and their students. Sure, there were occasional outbursts, but the Parkwood community was a safe one. It was certainly not full of violence and gang activity. Academic and athletic performance was some of the best in the county. The arts thrived in our schools. There was nothing to suggest that anyone wouldnt want their children to be a part of the Parkwood family. If this is what you define as a community full of violent peasants and hillbillies then I struggle to believe that you have an accurate perception of reality. We are who we are, in large part, because of the amazingly wonderful community we grew up in. Theres no reason to start a class war just because you happen to have planted your house on the wrong side of a redistricting line, Mrs. Anderson. If I were you, Id be happy to send my children to a school that has received this much positive support over the trouble you caused this week by flying off the handle. If thats something you cant deal with there are two options: Send your children to a private school. Or move. (PS. All of you have my permission to share this wherever you would like.)
