Im always so amazed that cooking has become such a lost art. Some of you may know about me that I LOVE to cook and make just about everything from scratch - Im sort of a naturalist when it comes to my food - I like it organic, GMO-free and mostly plant based with the exception of occasional fish and seafood. My son Jakob eats a lot like me but he does like turkey. Not the processed deli-sliced kind, I mean, the Thanksgiving kind. He likes it on sandwiches and to pick from it for snacks, etc. So a couple of times a month I buy a good-quality frozen turkey breast and when Im buzzing around the house on the weekends Im roasting it in the oven with garden-fresh herbs, garlic, ground pepper, and a tiny bit of sea salt. Yesterday, I bought a 7.6 lb turkey breast for $15.54. That works out to $2.04/lb. Unheard of! I was having a conversation with a 20-something who couldnt believe AT ALL that I actually cook a turkey breast in my oven outside of Thanksgiving. I tried to explain how much healthier it is than the processed, filler-laden lunch meat deli variety and how I can control the ingredients, not to mention the pure economics of it. Im actually pretty amazed at how few girls actually *cook* anymore. I dont mean heat up ... I mean, REALLY COOK. And please dont say there is no time because I work over 60 hours a week! Am I the only one who does this? B|
