Im an aspiring musician, songwriter and producer. My family doesnt really support me though... they like my work and my parents bought my guitar and some lessons years ago, but they call it my hobby, and emphasize how its good to have a hobby whenever I play for them, as some kind of warning not to actually be serious about it. Guys, they just dont get it. I bought a lot of equipment with my own money, and this is pricy stuff btw, yet they either dont see or dont approve of my commitment. I try to spend hours a day practicing and recording, but they often interrupt me cause its just a hobby. My confession: All I want in life is to touch other people through the power of sound and music, to help people through tough times like I have been helped by artists before me. I dont want money or power or fame, in fact Id prefer to be completely anonymous. All I want is to share my gift, but Im stuck struggling through an engineering program at Cal because thats what Im supposed to do, what I was raised to be. All my family members older than me are scientists and researchers, and my younger siblings are aimed the same way. I feel like the black sheep all the time, and I feel like I can never break out of the mold Ive been shoved into.
