Im back in Seattle after a week of celebration, performance and communion with my favorite collective of artists HOWDOYOUSAYYAMINAFRICAN! Our film, Good Stock on the Dimension Floor directed by Sienna Shields with a libretto by Dawn Lundy Martin opened at the 2014 Whitney Biennial, my framing essay landed brilliantly in the Whitney Biennial Catalogue and the first annual Whitney Houston Biennial, curated by HDYSYIAs own Finley Christine, and held at the YAM Cave in DUMBO was absolutely EVERYTHING! We had around 2000 attendees over the course of the evening and I performed 1001 Holy Names for Coochie for three hours straight! This is the second unofficial underground after party that the YAMS have thrown (our first was in Paris after the Black Portraitures: The Black Body in the West Conference) and its so gratifying to see how much love we get, wherever we are!! Even though some of the YAMS and I had to hold an impromptu PROTEST at the Biennial because WHITE SUPREMACY RUINS EVERYTHING and the only thing holding me back from destroying the wack ass Donelle Woolford installation was my lack of bail money and determination to not let the devil steal my joy, I would call this trip a resounding success. Cant wait to go back to the big city. Thanks to all the old-school homies who made this trip amazing ( Nathalie Molina Niño, MTkalla Keaton Asha Bandele Tai Freedom Ford Cristin Miller Sienna Shields) and shout out to Greg Tate for lending his Black Star Power to the YAMs after party!
