Im currently still making peace with the fact that I really write better shorter. (not TOO short mind you, I need some space to play around but not too much space.) My sweet spot is 50k to 65k words (And is actually probably part of why people who read both of my pen names often like the other one better. That length is PART of why I write in such a way that grabs you. Its how *I* write best. When people say they want something developed out more, often what I think they mean is they want more words, and sometimes I think people dont get that more words is not necessarily better. Especially when I do it. When I write more words its repetitive and has parts that drag. If I had Save My Soul to do over again, I would make it at least 10k words shorter than it ended up. It would have been tighter and IMO better. Not to say long books suck. Im not saying that at ALL, only that if *I* wrote them, I can promise you, they would suck. So that brings me to H&As book. I think it wants to be 55k words. But given that Dark Mercy will be in the front of both the ebook and print book because its absolutely necessary to their story, itll bring the grand total up to 75k and most of my readers havent read Dark Mercy. So yeah. Thats where we are. Given my experience with my last book under my other name, I know better than to angst and throw fits and freak out and try to force the book to be something I think it should be when it refuses. So Im going to go back now and write my short book. (Given how long my blog/facebook posts can sometimes be its truly bizarre that my brain wants 50k to 65k length books. And when I veer too far outside either side of that length... God help me.)
