Im disgusted at the fact that we as a community are so ignorant and judgemental to any change that comes to rye, summer season is the best time for local business, sure. However, a lot of our tourist are made up of young people who stay well past 8:30-10:00pm which is the usually kitchen closing time. Each year our town with out a doubt is getting busier and having no new take out restaurants in the works to open in rye anytime soon, we find our self waiting one hour to get a sovalaki from the local hectors or shark shack. Furthermore, the food truck area provides take away until 11pm it also provides a huge amount of shade from the sweltering sun we get down here in this beautiful town. It provides more room for people to have a seated lunch rather than fighting for a picnic bench on the foreshore. To add to the matter, on the day of opening my mother and I wanted to go and check it out to only find the entire side walk flooded with angry protesters. My family have lived down here for over 20 years and my mother a well know local didnt want to set foot near the area for fear that other locals will taunt her for getting some lunch, she found no problem with a few food trucks down here she had a problem with the protesters! Might I add when trying to get something else to eat, two of the take out restaurants In which we wanted to go to, were closed. Perhaps this wouldnt be such an issue for local business if they re thought their business plan for over the summer, for what is life without a little competition.
