Im excited for the next meeting! Glad to see we have such capable and dedicated organizers to help us direct our energy and copious talents. I think the way in which we can best utilize our power as citizens and consumers is to vote with our dollars. The political system is mostly incapable of implementing the change we so sorely need, and both political parties are responsible for that - largely due to the influence of corporations and the elite. But change can come from the bottom up, too. We should focus on using our buying power to support the causes which rally us. For those of us who believe in higher wages, we should be shopping at businesses which dont pay their employees barely a cent above minimum wage. Instead we can reward the businesses which treat their employees with decency, such as Trader Joes, Costco, Quicktrip, Gap Inc (questionable) and Ben and Jerrys. Surely this is just a preliminary list which doesnt mention small local businesses which pay fair wages. We should compile a list of local business which pay their employees well so we can reward them by buying from them. But even this might be considered a temporary solution to an endless problem - how can we cope with the rising tide of industrialization, the exportation and automation of labor? Eventually we must learn to live sustainably, in harmony with Nature, without the exploitative capitalist system to sustain us, incapable of functioning sustainably without a large, well-paid working class. What will happen when 90% of service jobs can be effectively and efficiently replaced by machines? How will our society be able to function without labor? Or will it refuse to advance into the future - a world of artificial intelligence and robotic servitude? No longer will we be serving the masters of the monopoly game, rather sustainable energy and artificial intelligence will serve us. Can we find a new way to live in this projection? A new world of peace and equality and fairness for all beings? Surely some form of communalism (dare I say?) will emerge that benefits all, not just the few fat cats at the top of our pyramid scheme, pulling the strings. But until then, we should vote with our dollars, buy local and sustainable and begin our transition into a more sustainable economy through renewable energy and local products, services and organic agriculture. Thanks for reading, Nick
