Im excited to announce that I will be putting a meet on Long Island in September of 2015 with Brendan Barrett and Sayville Running Company that will be titled the Hoka One One Long Island Mile. Ive wanted to bring high-level track to LI for a long time, and decided it was time to make the leap rather than just talking about. Its going to be a full community event with 2-3 hours of racing for youth, high school, parents, local elites and finishing off with a very competitive mens and womens professional mile featuring many of everyones favorite runners in our own backyard. I often fall into the trap of being an armchair philosopher when it comes to improving the sport of track and field, but this is a big opportunity to do things in a way, in which I have always envisioned meets being run. We hope to make it a festival-like atmosphere that will mimic many of the great races in Europe that I was able to race at during this past summer. There is a lot of work to be done, and the final date and venue are still being finalized, but Id greatly appreciate it if you took the time to LIKE our Facebook page to follow along with the progress and hopefully you will help us spread the word to friends and family who you think would enjoy the event. We have a lot of runners on Long Island from the HS level and beyond, and the area consistently packs and sells out road races. I think we are due for a big event, and thanks to our (and my own) sponsor, Hoka OneOne, we are going to make it possible.
