Im going to make the Grammar Police mad, but the Text Generation - TopicsExpress

Im going to make the Grammar Police mad, but the Text Generation has convinced me its time to pull a Noah Webster and update English spelling. We tend to forget that the written page is primarily a technology for recording speech and should carry out that function. Spelling on the page should make understanding speech easier, not more obscure (no matter what G B Shaw said, we should nor write fish as ghoti). So I propose some new spelling conventions (notice I dont call them rules): ---The second person pronoun is u; the extra letters in y-o-u are not needed. Of course to disambiguate, we still need ewe and yew. --The device we watch is a tv. We all know what those letters mean and how to say them. Writing television is a waste of effort and ink. --Why do we write out two? Every keyboard I have seen has a 2 key, and thats the form we use to calculate. Two is as obsolete as II --But enuf said (is there anyone who didnt understand this?) Add your own rules to the list. We need a spelling revolution!
