Im going to rant. I went to lunch today on break from my orientation, wearing my ambulance uniform, and as I was ordering, a man came up to me and asked, Are you a paramedic? I said, No, Im an EMT, but eventually plan to be a paramedic. He proceeded to tell me that hes sorry and that I chose the wrong profession because its for those who are too stupid to go to college or who arent motivated in life. This INFURIATED me. I started yelling at him explaining that this is a profession where people risk their lives EVERY DAMN DAY for complete strangers. He thought that just because Im not a business man making crazy money like he is that Im less than he is. Paramedics and EMTs have a higher mortality rate than firefighters and police officers COMBINED. We could lose our lives any damn day and he had the nerve to look down on us. I have never been more disgusted in my life.
