Im gonna vague-book (derrrrr) for a second about a certain promoter. I wont say her name...but she has red hair Theres a lot of big talk going on around here about supporting the local music scene, which is a good thing. I just want to invite all of my fellow musician friends to see through the bullshit. We the musicians, not the promoters, make our scene. It only gets better if we strive to make it better. How is Baton Rouge getting any better for musicians take home around $20-40 a piece whole someone who did not play a note takes home over a bill? They swear they take nothing...but they do. Go ahead, just ask to be present when they receive the money at the end of the night. Theyll go out of their way to keep you away. Im dealing with this very promoter (again not gonna say her name but I used to live with her). She is holding a piece of my property which I am trying to sell because she is upset that she isnt on the guest list for Bear Creek... I ask you all...is this someone mature enough to do business with? Does this person really support local music or is this all just a big high school popularity contest for her own vanity? This same promoter called me the other day to tell me that she was booking for Waka Winter Fest and told me I dont want to put yall on the bill. I bring this up only to point out how petty this shit is... Not saying were owed anything but if you have no interest to put my band on the bill...why tell me? Haha and then not more than 10 minutes later she demanded a bear creek guest pass. Its all clear now.... This kind of behavior is quite typical of an emotionally manipulative person. One of my best friends lives in a world of her manipulation and cant even see it. Its really insane. Anyway to wrap this up, musicians, know youre worth. Know youre worth. Know youre worth. People hire bands for weddings and drop thousands on them...for no profit...purely because they recognize the value of good music. Meanwhile, many of us play our asses off for no money, while packing a club, all while promoters and clubs do well for themselves. When I studied at Interlochen, I noticed that all the buildings had the names of rich, old people on them. This is because the greatest supporters of music are people who give and take nothing. These guys funded immense scholarships and the construction of massive facilities purely for the love of music. Clearly this isnt the standard for us all but its true for all of us. If you want to live in not just a city but a whole world of great art and music, the best way to support is to give and to not take from the people you support. I apologize for the rant, at least it didnt consist of a bunch of meaningless feel-good nonsense and had a point
