Im in the process of having a bad weekend. I have a pain killer - TopicsExpress

Im in the process of having a bad weekend. I have a pain killer called Buprenorphine. Its a patch that I put on my skin, and it slowly goes into my system. Its reasonably effective but, like a lot of prescription pain killers, it requires more than just a doctors prescription to get. The doctor has to send away for an authority from Canberra. This means that it takes time for the script to arrive. From the day the GP writes the script to the day I receive it in the mail usually takes about 7 days. So anyway, the script was sent off on Friday 4 July to get an authority but it hasnt come back yet. Meanwhile, my patch has finished. Im supposed to put a new one on today but I cant because there is no script. Ill have to wait until Monday afternoon before I can check the mail. In the meantime Ill have to cope with an increase in pain levels (as the effects of the Buprenorphine wear off, so will my pain increase) but Ill also have to cope with withdrawal symptoms. Buprenorphine is an opiate based drug, like codeine, morphine and heroin. So Ill be having awful dreams, headaches, nausea, hot and cold flushes, body aches and so on. Fortunately, Anna and the kids have gone off for a weekend in a friends shack (Tasmanian vernacular for holiday house), which means they wont have to be around me while I go green, turn into a monster and begin smashing everything around me.
