Im not an Iyengar yoga teacher and I only had the pleasure of being in the same room as BKS Iyengar one time, but Im certain that my life would not be what it is today without his teachings and those that taught so fiercely in his tradition. I remember how utterly confused I was when I started going to Iyengar classes. The clear, direct unyielding instructions about parts of my body I didnt know existed; the seemingly implausible nuanced actions and movements; the impossibly long inversions; the perfectly straight legs and bizarrely articulated feet; and, the relentlessly committed community of students and teachers blew my mind. I did, however, understand this: that all of this intensity came from love, commitment and the belief that one could penetrate the experience of embodiment and the phenomenon of consciousness in a profoundly deep way. A transcendent way. I cant express enough gratitude for the teachings of BKS Iyengar and for those that shared his teachings through their experience. Thank you for everything that you helped awaken in so many.
